Key Performance Indicators

KPI 12a

Follow-up at 3-6 months after the stroke incident is provided to at least 90% of patients.

Current status

The access to follow-up after stroke has so far not improved: in 2022, 11 countries reported that follow-up 3-6 months after stroke was part of their stroke pathway. There is a well-documented need for follow-up on secondary prevention, new complications including spasticity or pain, and need for further rehabilitation.

SAP-E recommends inclusion of follow-up into national stroke plans.

The target is follow-up in at least 90% of all stroke patients.
