Key Performance Indicators

KPI 6b

Access to a stroke unit for patients with acute stroke, defined as % of patients admitted to a stroke unit for care within 24 hours after admission to hospital.

Current status

Based on the time sensitive nature of stroke unit care, the status on admission to stroke unit care within 24 hours gives cause for serious concern. Some of the countries that do not monitor access to stroke unit care may provide admission within 24 hours to many, however, the lack of data may reflect a lower priority of early stroke unit care. Monitoring timely access to stroke unit care would be an important step towards the overarching targets of SAP-E.
